OUR SCHOOL
Montessori by the Sea was founded with the mission to foster a love of learning and to educate children to be caring, socially responsible citizens of their community and world. The educational and extracurricular programs at Montessori by the Sea involve children from ages infant to 6. Montessori by the Sea seeks to educate the whole child, applying the Montessori philosophy, in a family-oriented environment. The philosophy is based on the principles of Dr. Maria Montessori (1870-1952) whose holistic vision of education focuses on the cognitive, social, emotional and physical needs of the child. For Dr. Montessori, and for Montessori by the Sea, education is preparation for life.

Montessori by the Sea proudly serves families across two beautiful campuses, both located in La Jolla: PROSPECT and MT. SOLEDAD, each offering thoughtfully prepared Montessori environments designed to support children at every stage of early development.

NIDO – Infant Community
A peaceful, carefully prepared environment where infants are supported in movement, language development, and early independence. The Nido fosters security, trust, and responsive caregiving during this foundational stage of life.
PRE-PRIMARY – Toddler Community
An environment designed for exploration and growing autonomy. Toddlers develop coordination, language, concentration, and practical life skills while building confidence and social awareness.
PRIMARY – For Children Ages 3 to 6
Our Primary classrooms offer a rich Montessori curriculum that nurtures independence, curiosity, and academic foundations in literacy, mathematics, and cultural studies. Children develop concentration, problem-solving skills, and a lifelong love of learning.
